Compassionate Care, Collaborative Growth: Embracing Strengths + Nurturing Connections

Is your child or teen struggling with anxiety, confidence, or overwhelming emotions? Are these challenges affecting their well-being or impacting your family as a whole?

I specialize in working with parents, families, and young people (ages 8 and up) who seek greater ease in their daily lives. My practice is grounded in the belief that each individual holds a wealth of strengths and insights. In our sessions, you will experience a supportive and collaborative environment where we work together to set goals and explore both the challenges and strengths present in your family.

My therapeutic approach is guided by:

Narrative therapy is a collaborative approach that helps individuals and families explore and reshape their personal stories. It views problems as separate from people, allowing clients to see themselves as more than their challenges. By understanding and reauthoring their narratives, clients can discover new perspectives and solutions that better align with their values and strengths.

How Narrative Therapy Helps Children

For children, narrative therapy offers a way to express and understand their experiences through stories, play, and creative activities. This approach helps them make sense of their emotions and behaviors, empowering them to see themselves as capable and resilient. Through exploration, children can reframe their experiences in a way that fosters confidence and positive self-identity.

How Narrative Therapy Supports Families

In family therapy, narrative therapy encourages open dialogue and the development of shared understandings. It helps families identify and reframe unhelpful patterns and narratives that may be causing conflict or distress. By collaborating in sessions, families can strengthen their connections and navigate challenges with a renewed sense of unity and purpose.

Somatic Experiencing is a gentle, bottom-up approach that helps regulate the nervous system and build resilience. This method supports children and families in managing stress, tolerating discomfort, and engaging more fully in life. By exploring fight, flight, and freeze responses, as well as experiences of safety, Somatic Experiencing addresses emotional and physical responses relevant to all ages. This approach fosters greater emotional stability and a deeper sense of security.

I integrate Hand in Hand Parenting, a gentle parenting approach, into my work with families, offering an effective method for fostering strong parent-child connections. Hand in Hand Parenting is designed to help children feel heard and empowered while supporting parents in managing their child’s emotions and needs with greater ease. This approach focuses on supporting families to build trust, communication, and emotional resilience together. I invite you to visit Hand in Hand’s Website to learn more about the approach and their five tools for connection.

Affirming care is central to my therapeutic approach. It involves recognizing, validating, and supporting each individual’s unique identity and experiences. This approach is particularly important for both neurodivergent individuals and those exploring their gender identity. By creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment, we can foster growth, self-acceptance, and overall well-being.

Neurodivergent-Affirming Care

Incorporating neurodivergent-affirming care means honoring and valuing the diverse ways people experience and interact with the world. Whether it’s ADHD, autism, giftedness or any other neurodivergent trait, this approach focuses on understanding and embracing these differences rather than trying to fit individuals into a neurotypical mold. By acknowledging and supporting neurodivergent traits, we help individuals thrive by leveraging their unique strengths and perspectives.

Gender-Affirming Care

Gender-affirming care is crucial for supporting individuals through their gender identity journey. This approach involves recognizing and respecting each person’s gender identity, including their chosen names, pronouns, and expressions. It provides a validating space for individuals to explore and affirm their gender, which can significantly impact their mental and emotional health. Supporting gender identity helps in creating a more inclusive and empowering environment for growth and self-discovery.
